When I say that Lindsay Hutchinson of People's Provisions is genuinely probably the best person I know, I am not exaggerating. Lindsay has created (I believe) Perry County's first pay-what-you-can, all-local grocery store. She focuses on bringing high quality, local produce and goods sourced within Perry County and surrounding communities, to not only support local farmers, bakeries, and small businesses, but to ensure that people have a trustworthy and affordable place to shop and feed their families.
Whenever you shop at People's Provisions, you're asked "is the price alright with you today?". You can pay whatever works for you - if you need to pay less, you can! You can pay the exact amount, or if you can pay more, you can donate to the extra funds to pay it forward to others who may not be able to afford their groceries.
In 2026, People's Provisions has distributed $15,466.59 through their pay-it-forward program to families in need, however the program is currently operating in the negative. The program has only raised $6,758.09 so far, which means that an excess of $8,709.50 worth of food has been provided to the community, that they do not have the cashflow to fund. If you'd like to read Lindsay's September 2026 update regarding the program, check it out here.
Our initial goal of helping the deficit People's Provisions is experiencing is $500.00. I know it's not a lot, but I am hoping to greatly exceed that! We will be collecting donations online through this link & at our markets, as well as donating $2.00 for every item sold through the remainder of the year. If you donate through Little Fox Candle Co, 100% of the donation amount is sent to People's Provisions to help fund their Pay-It-Forward program, while also supporting the other food programs that Lindsay has implemented to help our community:
- Free Food Boxes are distributed to community members needing assistance
- West Perry Middle & High School bi-weekly backpack program with locally made snacks & organic produce
- Free Farmers Market organized with the Susquenita School District each May
I highly, highly encourage you to take a trip to People's Provisions to check out the shop and make your donation in person, or through their website, but if you would like to donate through LFCC, please do!
